Back in the mid-60s, when Flag Is Up Farms was still on the drawing board and long before Monty Roberts was a household name, the young Monty toured farms throughout Europe, South America and the United States to find and bring back the best of all innovations in order to design a state-of-the-art facility in California.
That was forty years ago and Monty says, "I'm still bringing back ideas today for my daughter Laurel to test for use in facilities she designs here in the United States today. One thing I always try to maintain is an open mind. I don't know how many times I've seen something and thought, 'That won't work', and then I find it does. If it's better than what I've been doing, I'll change it tomorrow. You've got to move with the times.
Things are much different today than they were even ten years ago. Some of the most progressive products that I have encouraged Laurel to incorporate in her facility designs range from free-walk exercise machines to non-porous floors. New methods of manure management and ventilation are some of the many topics you can expect to hear more about in the near future. That's just the short list; there are many more areas in need of improvement and research." Monty states.
